This evening after I arrived home from work, I installed a new battery in my car. The good news is... it works! The entire job took less than an hour, and I learned some cool stuff. It probably should have only taken about 15 minutes, but... I haven't ever replaced a battery before and didn't really know what I was doing. As an added bonus, I didn't even break anything or injure myself!

Happiness. It's especially wonderful since for the past month, my STI has been sitting in the parking garage, a beautiful but useless lump of a car. The power-hungry stereo/sound system that I adore and the fact that I only drive it 3-4 times a month finally killed my stock battery. Eventually, my car just wouldn't start. Which is... I guess what happens... when your car battery is dead. Yeah.

After doing some research about car batteries, I decided on an Optima Red Top, as it seems to be perfect for my situation. I purchased it online from Batteries Plus, and it arrived fairly quickly, was packed extremely well, and included (for free!) the spacer bracket I needed raise the battery up to the right height. I'd definitely recommend the site if you need to buy batteries of any type. And they seem to have just about any type!

All of my installation knowledge came from this forum post. Other than almost giving myself a heart attack when I connected the negative terminal (As the positive side was already connected, my alarm started going off, very, very loudly), it was pretty easy. When the car finally started up (it definitely took a lot longer than normal to start since it had been dead for a month), that was a cool moment. I took it for a short spin around the block, and everything seemed to be back to normal. I was tempted to drive someplace far away, even though it was 11pm... I just love driving my car.

And I'm so happy I got it running just in time to drive to the DMV tomorrow morning to renew my license. Yay.
